Postpartum sessions are not just about capturing beautiful images with your baby, they are about capturing YOU and your process of becoming a mother. The are an expierience in and of themselves designed to honor the body that grew and birthed your baby and to celebrate this period of healing and transition. I want to offer women a space to explore thier relationships with thier children, but also with themselves; to embrace the changes-- both internal and external-- and to feel all the feelings.

This sessions are not your typical "motherhood mini". They are slow-paced and contemplative. We talk alot. In getting to know more about your personal expieriences, I am able to photograph you and your baby authentically and compassionately.

As a Delware motherhood photographer, I am coming in as a witness. When you book a postpartum session with me, you don’t need to put on makeup or even get dressed. I hold the space for the mothers who work with me to show up exactly as they are. This is what I am most passionate about in my work as a photographer: creating images that are true to your unique motherhood expierience.

WHAT A POSTPARTUM SESSION CAN MEAN FOR YOU:

  • A testament to your strength—honoring the journey you and your baby have been through.

  • A moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate this new chapter of your life.

  • A reminder that you are more than your changes—you are powerful, resilient, and whole.

  • An intentional act of self-care. A way to see yourself as a new mother with fresh eyes, love, compassion, and pride.

  • A chance to capture the beauty of the postpartum season, however raw and tender it may be.

  • A declaration that you are worthy of being seen, just as you are, in this moment. And that you are in the process of becoming the kind of mother you want yourself to be.

Postpartum Session FAQ's

My baby is almost a year old, is it too late for a Postpartum Session?

It is not too late! For the purposes of these sessions, I define the postpartum period to be anytime within the first 12 months. By one year, our babies are usually moving into toddlerhood, which can change the dynamic. Running after a toddler can make it challenging to be fully present in your body for this kind of session. If you have an child 12 months or older, and would still like an intimate motherhood photography expierience-- I offer those as well! You can read more about them HERE.

My baby and I are no longer breastfeeding, can we have a postpartum session too?

Of course, I respect any way that you feed your baby. I have photographed many beautiful postpartum sessions where there has been no feeding at all. If you want, we can always include pumping, bottle feeding, or any other significant part of your unique journey into your session.

Where do you photograph Postpartum Sessions?

A postpartum session is photographed exclusivley at home. In your home, we can photograph in any rooms that have adequate natural light. This could be in the shower or bath, the kitchen, your bedroom, or the nursery. Let me know if you have any ideas for areas that you would like to utilize during your session. If you are interested in learning more about in-home sessions, you can read more HERE.

Can my partner or older children participate in my Postpartum Session?

My postpartum sessions are for mothers and thier children only (this includes older siblings). If you plan on including older children, I recommend having a partner or another trusted adult available nearby. These sessions have a strong focus on the mother and her current infant. It is helpful to have someone on hand who can occupy restless older children and manage any tantrums or needs that may arise during your session.

What should I wear? What should my baby wear for a Postpartum Session?

For Postpartum sessions, I recommend starting with an article of clothing that defines those early days and months of postpartum for you. This could be a chunky sweater, a robe, a nightgown, or a particular set of matching underwear. The benefits of these sessions taking place in the comfort of your home is that you have access to multiple looks through out the session. You can put something on, take something off as you feel like it.

I recommend babies start in a solid onsie, diaper, or diaper cover. If you are brave, we can also go diaper-less for part of the session. You can always raise the temperature temporarily to keep babies comfortable during your session too if you are interested in more images that feature skin-to-skin.

What if I don't feel comfortable being nude or semi-nude for a Postpartum Session?

While I do believe that skin-to-skin lends a beautiful intimacy to postpartum images, there is no expectation of nudity or semi-nudity from me. I want you to show up in the way that helps you feel most comfortable and confident and true to your postpartum expierience.

Will you share my images online?

Only if you say that you are comfortable with me sharing, otherwise the images we make together are just for you. That being said, I believe in the power of story sharing. All mothers are more alike than we are different, and women being willing to be open and honest about their ups and downs, joys and struggles, is healing and cathartic for mothers everywhere. I love to share motherhood stories when I can, but understand if you would rather keep your images and stories private. You can read an example of a motherhood story HERE, and HERE.

What is makes a postpartum session different than a newborn or motherhood session?

A postpartum session is much more about YOU than a typical newborn or motherhood session. This is a deeply personalized photo expierience where we can explore the defining memories of your Matrescence. Matrescence, a termed coined by anthropologist Dana Raphael, is the process of becoming a mother. A developmental period of significant transformation encompassing not only the physical changes of pregnancy and childbirth but also the emotional, psychological, and social adjustments that accompany motherhood.  You can read more about how postpartum sessions can honor this transitional period HERE.
